General Summary: The Assistant Director of Special Facilities leads the division in coordinating and managing a variety of special interest facilities and all related programs. These include but are not limited to the BREC Arts, Magnolia Mound Historic Site, Liberty Lagoon Water Park & Community Pools, Independence Theatre, Farr Park Equestrian Center & RV Campground, and Airline Fairgrounds. May assume responsibilities of the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation in his/her absence; interacts with BREC staff and the public daily, in person and by telephone.
Essential Functions and Duties: • Leads site managers in directing day-to-day operation of all special facilities and respective programs. • Performs field inspections and tours facilities to ensure proper operations of facilities • Serves as a liaison between BREC and Advisory Boards of organizations utilizing BREC facilities • Works directly with other BREC Departments affecting special facilities including but not limited to Park Operations, Planning & Construction, and Risk Management. • Assists director in budget preparation, expense monitoring, long range planning and budgeting activities. • Ensures compliance with BREC policies and procedures • May assume duties of Assistant Superintendent of Recreation in his/her absence
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: •Thorough knowledge of the principals and practices and all phases of recreation, facility management, and event planning are required. • Leadership & interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with departmental staff and to relate well to representatives of public & private interest groups & officials of other agencies. • Knowledge of the communities served by BREC, including community’s concerns & interests • Ability to analyze and articulate BREC policies, operations & programs. • Ability to plan and organize people and programs effectively. • Ability to analyze financial reports and budget management. • Ability to assess performance problems and identify appropriate training and development programs.

Area of Study (major) Required: Recreation Administration, Event Planning, Facility Management, or related field.
Certification(s) Required: CPRP Certification through NRPA must be completed within 2 years from hired date.
License(s) Required: Valid LA driver’s license
Years Relevant Work Experience: Minimum 5 years progressive experience in a related field with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
